THE DUTCH DOLL

On the left we see Mrs. Mary Ozier with the Dutch Doll, c. 1930 This wooden effigy, holding a Bible in one hand, and a scroll bearing the words "SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES [jOHN V. 39]" in the other. It represents a Charity school girl of 1792, and used to stand over the front door of the chool, but was taken down, and kept in the school for many years. After the school's closure it was mounted on the west wall of the Church, but was stolen on the 24th. January 1981. (The picture on the left and these  words from John Bailey's book "Finedon Revealed " with his kind permission)

Where ever this doll now is it should be in the Church  of St. Mary the Virgin, Finedon.

If think you know where it is please send an e-mail to peter.munton@finedon.org.uk
