THE WATER TOWER

PICTORIAL HISTORY INDEX

This unusual looking water tower was built in 1904 for £1,500 and once supplied most of Finedon's water. It is no longer in use. It is said that on a fine day you can see Peterborough Cathedral from the top. The tower is visible for miles around. On my return visits  this tower is the first sighting I get of Finedon.

On the left we see the Water Tower under construction 1904. The Notice reads "FINEDON WATER SUPPLY, SITE FOR WATER TOWER AND PROPOSED SWIMMING BATH ECT., O.P. DREVER CONTRACTOR, ROUND MILL WORKS, KETTERING. MOSLEY & SCRIVENER, ENGINEERS, NORTHAMPTON". The gentleman in the foreground is Mr. Drever.

Here we see the Water Tower in 1905. The site notice is still in position, so the building has just been completed. It is recorded that although the tower cost just over £1,500, the whole scheme of public water provision cost £13,000.

The swimming pool never materialized.
